  • The prison population in England and Wales is 84,405[i]
  • 47% of prisoners have no qualifications. 60% of prisoners without qualifications are reconvicted within a year of release[ii]
  • 51% of people entering prison were assessed as having the literacy skills expected of an 11 year old (This compares with 15% of the general population)
