CILIP, the Library and Information Association, has announced the full programme for CILIP Conference 2017 taking place on July 5 and 6 in Manchester.

Offering a vital space for practitioners to think creatively and strategically, this year’s event emphasises practical ideas and opportunities that delegates can bring back to their job role and organisation, including:

  • Knowledge and skills to inform planning and improvements
  • Devising strategies and business cases
  • Supporting business decisions with evidence
  • A range of marketing tools to engage users
  • Effective tools to deliver CPD
  • Ideas and strategies to improve the skills of staff
  • Career development for all levels, from those starting out to experienced practitioners

A range of relevant topics and learning opportunities provide support for those working in library, knowledge and information roles in any sector. Expert-led topical workshops include copyright, marketing, equalities and increasingly important impact and evaluation. ‘Future Trends’ is a new strand aimed at Heads of Service and decisionmakers, anticipating key changes to support planning and preparation. High level seminars look at service design, managing information, literacy, learning and using data. ‘Your Career’ brings focused sessions for those starting out, as well as tailored career advice sessions and practical guidance around dealing with change and being a good communicator.

Opening keynote Dr Carla Hayden, the 14th Librarian of Congress, who is the first African American and first female to be appointed to the prestigious role is followed by Professor Luciano Floridi, Professor of Philosophy and Ethics of Information at the Oxford Internet Institute, University of Oxford.

CILIP Conference 2017 welcomes anyone working in the UK and international community, with a range of booking rates for members, non-members, students and unwaged practitioners as well as groups. For the best value, early bird rates are available until 28 April. A number of bursary places are available through CILIP Member Networks and the CILIP Aspire Award is currently open for entries from new professionals who can win a bursary place as part of their professional development.
