IFLA Elections 2017

Every two years  IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions)  holds elections for positions at every level of its governance structure. It has recently issued calls for nominations for:

Members of IFLA Sections Standing Committees 2017-2021

IFLA Sections are similar to CILIP’s Special Interest Groups bringing together subject experts from across the world on a wide range of topics.

CILIP is entitled to nominate one person to each Section Standing Committee of which it is a member.  A person who is successfully elected to an IFLA Section Standing Committee serves on the Committee for four years and. If nominated again, is entitled to serve a second term of four years on the same Section Standing Committee, but then has to stand down. A list of the IFLA Sections of which CILIP is a member will be found lower down this page.

You can find IFLA’s call for nominations for Section Standing Committees here

If you are interested in being nominated to stand as a member of a Section Standing Committee you will need to check that CILIP is a member of the Section concerned (see list below),  fill out the attached CILIP nomination application, and the IFLA nominee’s  consent form (without prejudice to the decision on applications for nomination by the CILIP Nominations Panel) and return both  to CILIP (at policy@cilip.org.uk)  no later than Wednesday 12 January 2017.

CILIP’s Nomination Procedure for IFLA Sector Standing Committees

CILIP nominations to the IFLA Section Standing Committees will be determined by a Panel looking at all the applications received. The Panel will be chaired by Dawn Finch and with Nick Poole and Guy Daines as the other members. All applicants for CILIP nomination will be informed of the outcome and nomination forms with nominee consent forms for successful applicants will be submitted to IFLA by their closing date of 8 February 2017.

Overall if there are too many nominations for places available on any Section Standing Committees then IFLA will hold elections for those Section Standing Committees over March and April 2017. Those who are elected will take up their positions at the end of the IFLA World Library & Information Congress in Wroclaw (Poland), 19-25 August 2017.
